The Museum of the City of New York is embracing the digital future through a partnership with Candy Digital.
Arts and culture, pioneered in web3
For 100 years, the Museum of the City of New York has played a vital role in New York City's cultural landscape, documenting the world’s most influential metropolis through its exhibitions, programs and digital content.
On May 24th, the Museum is hosting its Centennial Gala to unveil This Is New York: 100 Years of the City in Art and Pop Culture, the Museum’s Centennial exhibition. The Museum will also honor Michael R. Bloomberg with the Gotham Icon Award in recognition of his steadfast dedication to New York City and his continuous support of the Museum. To commemorate the occasion, Candy has produced a unique, limited-edition digital ticket available exclusively to the Gala attendees.
A year-long special exhibition, This Is New York: 100 Years of the City in Art and Pop Culture, examines what New York City has meant to people, including artists, writers, and other creators who have been inspired by the city. It features more than 400 objects across visual art, television and film, music, theater, literature, and fashion; a digital bookshelf interactive voiced by celebrities such as Matthew Broderick, Rosario Dawson, Lea DeLaria, Tessa Thompson, and more; as well as a must-see immersive film experience, You Are Here, highlighting the sights, sounds, and significance of the city in cinema. Beyond the centennial exhibition, the Museum of the City of New York houses a permanent collection of over 750,000 objects—prints and photographs, paintings and sculpture, theater, costume and textiles, manuscripts and ephemera, furniture and decorative arts, and archival collections—that touch all aspects of the city’s material and cultural history from the 1600s to today.
Candy is excited to be bringing MCNY’s collection and content to life via digital assets, and offer New Yorkers and visitors the opportunity to engage with the city’s past, present and future in a distinctly digital way.
